When asked about areas that each client may excel in Matthew says that client A does not necessarily excel in just one area. Matthew recalls one day client A's father asking him what Forty-nine multiplied by forty-nine was and the client told his father he did not know the answer and then whispered it to another staff member. The person caring for the individual with autism needs to do three major acts to help with the intervention of the problem. The location of meals may need to be changes to avoid distraction or the schedule may need to be changed to smaller more frequent meals. These behaviors are similar to our own nervous habits only are more intense. Fourth, Behavior is an outward expression of an inward state (Understanding the Nature of Autism). Sadly there is no cure for autism however there are many forms of treatment. It's important to seek and work with doctors and dentist who are either knowledgeable or experienced in providing care for those with autism. New concepts, rules, and routines will need to be taught to prevent future problems. Even though the condition that results in autism occurs at birth, parents or individuals caring for the child may not notice the symptoms until later in life when there is a failure to develop some of the early social and communication skills such as eye contact (Understanding the Nature of Autism).
