Cause and Effect

For everything that happens, something else happens. These are called action-reaction
pairs or otherwise known as cause and effect. In the story the "Odyssey," there are many
Throughout the story, Odysseus is gone away from home for 20 years. He didn't
get to see his son grow up or be with his wife through all those years. For the first 10
tears, hes at the Trojan War. After that, he gets cursed by Poseidon. This causes the next
10 years to be filled with obstacles and adventures to finally return home.
One of these adventures and set-backs is when Odysseus gets stuck on Calypso's
island. This causes him to be stranded there for the next seven years. During those seven
years, he slept with Calypso and she fell in love with him. Luckily for Odysseus, Zeus sent
Hermes to order Calypso to let him go. However, it was very ungodly whenever
Odysseus leaves, Calypso shows that she has feeling and emotions, just like a human when
a tear runs down her cheek. It shows that she is real and caring unlike most other gods.
Later on in the story, Odysseus and his men visit a cave. In this cave, a large,
one-eyed, man-eating monster named Cyclops lives. Cyclops tries to eat Odysseus and his
men. So to get free, the men hit Cyclops in the eye which causes him to go blind and
allows the men to escape and return on their journey.
In conclusion, these are three of the several action-reaction pairs in this story. As
you can see, for everything that happens, something else happens. There are many cause
and effect relationships in the "Odyssey."
