The Value of a Free Education

             A good education is one of the most important things an individual can pursue. There are many aspects of life that a complete education will affect a person. Having a high education meaning a well-paying job, better opportunities, and a better life. It also makes a person smarter than someone without one. There are many ways in which education benefit people. The value of education is important to many people now a day as it was during the Antebellum and Reconstruction periods.
             One of the major issues that separated the wealthy American from the poor white and slaves is education. Education was not provided for many children and was restricted from African American. This idea was put practiced for slave owners does not want their slaves to be educated and understand their rights so they can easily control them. Although they were not allowed to receive any education, many African American educated themselves secretly and as a result, they were severely punished by their master. Free education was extremely important to African American as it was demonstrated in the movie called Night John.
             Free education was also important to many poor families. During the time of the Civil War, most people received no formal training at all. On the contrary, some wealthy parents sent their children to foreign countries for better education, which showed how important it is to them. Tutors and private academies only trained the few that could afford an education, which increased the value of it. Education played a major role in history during the Antebellum and Reconstruction period because it was proved to be powerful and important to many people especially to the African American.
             People eventually took their education more seriously during the later years. By the end of Reconstruction, more public schools were built. New Orleans launched the first public school system in the state in 1841. From these first schools, public education spread...
