Remember the Titans
The movie Remember the Titans was written by Gregory Allen Howard, directedby Boaz Yakin, and produced by Jerry Buckheimer. Denzil Washington, WillPatton, Wood Harris, and Ryan Hurst played the main characters in the movie. The actors that were chosen for this film were perfect. While I would notsay that this was the best movie Denzil Washington has ever starred in, Iwould say that Denzil Washington being in this movie made it better. Based on a true story set in the early 1970's, Coach Herman Boone (DenzilWashington) was hired to coach football at the newly integrated T. C.Williams High School in Alexandria, Virginia. The previous white coach, BillYoatz (Will Patton) is kept on as Boone's assistant, while the community, the players and the coaches struggle to accept and adjust to the situationthey have been forced into by federal law. The main plot of the movie laysout acts of indifference to race as well as to culture as the new coachtries to get his players working together as a team. The characters in the movie are based on real people struggling with agrowth in our country that changed the history and future of the United
This scene providedperfect harmony between the words spoken to the team and the setting thatencompassed them. It is hard for my generation to understand theintegration process and the struggles that surrounded it because we came outof the womb being taught to accept. Because of the growth in culturaldiversity in this country today, this movie hit the screen at a good time. Sports today just as then provide a bridge thatpeople from all cultures are willing to cross in the name of competition. The story itself is an important lesson in American history. What I did not see a big difference in was theclothing. A true story always provides a good script. The "unity" shown in this film was almost too good to be true. "Remember the Titans" is a good movie that joins together people ofdifferent cultures and gives insight to an era I knew nothing about. Another point I took away from the movie was that while we have been taughtto listen too and respect our elders, there are some things that young mindsand young hearts see past while adults sometimes put all there energy intonot seeing them at all. I found racism evident in the movie from the first scene. A significant fact that was omitted is that there were actuallythree high schools, one predominately white and two predominately black, that were combined into one, instead of two as was depicted in the film. Being an athlete this story drove home the need for unconditional teamworkin order to be successful. Hislong hair and California style of acceptance stood out as much as Julius(Wood Harris) did when he walked through a white neighborhood to visit hisnew friend Gary (Ryan Hurst).
