Lord of the flies-symbolism

             In Lord of The Flies, written by William Golding, many examples of symbolism are shown to prove the authors point of "man is evil." Symbolism can be anything, a person, place or thing, used to portray something beyond itself. Through the story some of them are called the early traits. Some of them are the fire, piggy's glasses, savagery, anarchy, face clay, and lawlessness.
             Jack is very lawless in the novel. For example all he wants to do is hunt. This shows that Jack doesn't care about the law. This also shows that Jack doesn't care about anybody but himself. Another example is that Jack and Ralph do not like each other. This shows that they are two different people. This also shows that Jack wants to be the leader but Ralph is, so it causes dislike between the two boys. Another example is Jack's problem with the fire. This shows that Jack wants to stay on the island. This also shows that Jack doesn't care about getting rescued. Jack is very symbolic.
             Piggy's glasses are symbolic. For example, piggy's glasses show in the intelligence. This shows that piggy should be respected. This also shows that piggy should be a leader. Another example is piggy's clear sightedness. This shows that when piggy's glasses are clear everything is fine but when they break society is all screwed up. This also shows that piggy can probably see in the future. Another example is piggy's knowledge for the island. This shows that without piggy the kids wouldn't live. This also shows that if it weren't for piggy the kids wouldn't have anywhere to sleep or anything to eat. Piggy's glasses and piggy are very symbolic.
