Andrew Carnegie: Pioneer of Steel Viedo Analysis

             Industrialist, philanthropist, author and robber baron, Andrew Carnegie was a legendary figure in his own time and a nineteenth century icon. Whose education was formed in the library. Andrew Carnegie: Prince of Steel tells a story of a man who embodied the American dream and is a true rags to riches story, through expert commentary, archival footage and interviews with family members, including his only surviving grandchild. This biography encompasses his life from his emergence in the steel industry to the erection of our transportation infrastructure (railroads, bridges, automobiles, ships, etc) that would build our nation. He was a major catalyst in the transformation into the Industrial Revolution producing the steel to make machinery and transportation possible.
             Carnegie is portrayed as a shrew businessman who began his assent into success at an early wage as a bobbin boy in a factory. He then became a telegraphy operator and soon joined the Pennsylvania Railroad. Carnegie entered the iron business in 1861 when he and Thomas Miller had made an investment in a local iron company. Carnegie and Miller and two other partners later founded the Cyclops Iron Works in Pittsburgh in 1864. This firm later merged with another firm to form the Union Iron Works.
             Carnegie's big break came at the age of 17 when Tom Scott of the Pennsylvania Railroad hired him. He had come to Scott's attention because of his reputation and Scott needed a personal telegrapher and secretary. Soon after his new employment the Civil War broke out and although he didn't join the battle physically his role of organizing the Telegraphers Corps for the Union Army in the Civil War was of great importance.
