Othello

             Othello, one of the great plays from William Shakespeare, was composed in the affluent period of literature in England. According to Literature: An Introduction to Fiction, Poetry, and Drama. Ed. X. J. Kennedy and dana Gioia. 9th ed, William Shakespeare is known as the great writer of English who was born, baptized, and buried in the market town of Stratford-on-Avon. Shakespeare usually composes most of his plays adapting from a tale story. Othello is an example how Shakespeare borrows the scheme from a tale story of a sixteenth century Italian writer, Giraldi Cinthio. However, he had proved himself to the world as a brilliant author of literature in both poems and plays by his achievements. Hamlet, King Lear, Macbeth, and Othello are the most four notable plays of tragedy, which honestly turn Shakespeare to a brilliant writer.
             Nevertheless each play contains a significant theme such as murder, race and love. Although Shakespeare had composed many plays, the theme of each play is slightly different from one another. What distinguishes Othello from its great tragedies peers is the role of its villain, Iago. Hamlet, King Lear, and Macbeth are all remarkably evil in their own way while Othello focuses on the diabolical role of lago. Although Othello has already been composed for a long period of time, many interesting critics and readers still analyze the play, and find it as one of good plays composed by Shakespeare. The play clearly demonstrates us with two notable characters, Iago and his victims. Iago causes Othello to see the infidelity of his innocence and honest wife, Desdemona, with his lieutenant, Michael Cassio and to death.
             One theme of the play, which can be seen very easily at the beginning of the play, is racism. One of the main characters, Othello, is a black general who is also an Iago victim.
