THE REMOVALISTS A PLAY BY DAVID WILLIAMSON
"The Removalists" is widely thought to be Australia's most acknowledged plays and it has created a very disputatious and a very "Australian" glance of Australian society during the early 1970's. David Williamson's "The Removalists" is about power: people who gain power, people who lose power and those who misuse and abuse power. Everybody knows that without power they are not counted in today's society. In this play people react to the power of choice in very different ways. It is the same case with the way things are said for example sarcasm can make a sentence mean the exact opposite of what the words themselves mean. Although the two sisters also turn against each other just like Simmonds and Ross, as Kenny questions Kate about her affair. The spoken word refers to the way people speak and the many variations and styles according to the speaker's background, situation and lifestyle.
