ticity. Silko herself is a Pueblo Indian, and so is the main character in the novel, Tayo. So it would only make sense that the story is told in a Pueblo Indian narrative structure. The book is written as though you are hearing a story, not reading one. We learned in class that what's crucial in the Pueblo stories is not always just the words themselves, but how the story is told and how it keeps the culture alive, since each word has a story of its own. It is because of this particular reason why I believe Silko chose to tell the story as she did. It is not simply a novel about a lost boy, or the horrors of war and how it affected the people in the Laguna community or how the white world and colonization has ruined and tainted the American Indian way of life. This novel is instead about reclaiming culture and a sense of belonging in a community, not just for Tayo, but for the author herself. Without this narrative style that Ceremony was written in, it would have just been another fiction novel. Although the story is sometimes confusing because of the way in which it was written, just like a spider web, the strength in the story and like strength in real life for the Pueblo culture comes from the interconnectedness.
