classroom observation

             Mr. N's Seventh grade science class was located in Lincoln Middle School, district 81 which serves Schiller Park Illinois. The makeup of the community is extremly diverse with a 38% Hispanic population as well as a very large population of Polish students. The socio-econmomic backround of most students ranged from middle class to low income households. Inclusion was practiced throughout the school and was cause for some very interesting situations. Mr. Noverini pointed out privately to me those students who either had behaviour problems, special ed students or children who were known to come from troubled homes. This Unique perspective was useful in my observation for the purpose of understanding students' behaviour and the different techniques that were employed by the teacher to better suite that students learning style.
             Mr. Noverini informed me that the science curriculum had been introduced to the school this year however, teacher guides gave no advice on how to teach to multiple learning styles along with disabilities. This being said, Mr. Noverini made it a point to tell me that he reverted back to his experience and education psychology knowledge to teach this new material. The instructor also informed me that with students who had behaviour disorders were never confronted agressively because this approach would not be condusive to their condition and might produce an innapropriate response from the student that could be avoided. Special ed students were interesting because many of them also fell under the category of behaviour disorder. Perhaps thes conditions are correlated.
             I was given the oppurtunity to introduce myself in class as well as engage the students in a discussion about college and their future aspirations.
