Dangers of Smoking

Every year, 440,000 Americans die from cancers caused by smoking. Cigarette smokers have twice the risk of a heart attack than non-smokers. Also, smokers have 2 to 4 times the chance to get lung cancer, than non-smokers. Smoking causes different types of cancer. You can develop lung cancer, cancer of the larynx, oral cavity, esophagus, and in the bladder. Smoking can also lead to amputation, caused by nicotine. Nicotine causes low blood circulation. Also, cigarette smoke can cause impotence in men. Lung cancer is the leading cause of death among men and woman. Smoking is responsible for an estimated 87% of lung cancer deaths among Americans. It is also in fault of about 30% of all cancer deaths every year in the United States. Smoking also contributes to heart and lung disease, and stroke. In fact, cigarette smoking is the most preventable cause of death in the United States. Cancer from smoking is caused by the more than 60 substances that are found in cigarettes. Cigarette smoke also contains an estimated 4,000 chemical agents. These substances include tar, lead, and carbon monoxide.


Nicotine can affect the chemistry of the central nervous system and the brain. Everyone knows that smoking is bad for his or her health, but most aren't willing to quit. Thirty-five percent of the 70% aren't even willing to try. When you stop smoking, many people have withdrawals. The age that you began to smoke is one of the leading reasons why you develop cancer. Nicotine can create a pleasant feeling that can make a new smoker, or a person who has smoked for years, learn to like. These withdrawal symptoms include headache, nervousness, shaking, irritability, and difficulty in sleeping. Research has shown that children and spouses of smokers tend to have more respiratory infections and asthma than those of non-smokers. And just by smoking one cigarette, it can leave an amount of tar in your lungs that is quite noticeable. Thirty-seven of those chemicals are known to cause cancer. Tar alone contains more than 4,000 chemicals. Nicotine also reduces blood flow, which may cause amputation. Also, at the resting heart rate, your heart rate may increases 2 or 3 beats per minute. Smoking does not just harm smokers but also those around them. Second hand smoke can cause premature birth, birth defects, and breast cancer, too.
