bright stars, are they only shining lights? The planets, are they only colored circles?
Indeed, the unreachable areas have always fascinated us. The ignorance of what our
cosmos truly contains represents a sort of failure for humans’ s intelligence. Through
their excerpt entitled “ Cosmic Loneliness”(1991), Goldsmith and Owen debate the
eventual existence of an intelligent life in the universe. Over this extract these authors
combine diverse theories with the evolution of people’s thoughts to show how the
majority of human beings ask themselves about their real history and about the actuality
of other species. As Goldsmith and Owen, I think that people’s captivation towards UFO’
s (unidentified flying objects) is due to their feeling of loneliness in such a large space.
According to Goldsmith and Owen, during a log time people were convinced by the idea
. . .
which means that humans clearly understood their actions’ weightiness on Earth. I truly
believe that the humans’ s nature is in such a way that we do not bear being alone, we
always need to feel another presence by our side.
Besides, I am persuaded by the fact that as people feel alone, it makes them invent stories
just in order to make their life more exiting. As a result humans needed to find some company to be with and it increased
their interest for UFO’s. Consequently people keep
being captivated by UFO’ s. Knowing that humans ‘ race
could be the only civilization in the universe frighten people because they realize how
much they have to depend only on themselves if any thing happens to our planet. Second, in my opinion, I
think that people who are really devastated by the solitude prefabricate stories about
UFO’ s to make their lives spicier. Therefore people
began to be engrossed by the extraterrestrials’ being. divine power is leading he natural functioning of the world, and that this deific
supremacy has the responsibility of the human being’ s operations. And third, as far as I am concerned I believe that the
feeling of loneliness in an enormous universe represents a fear for people and it made
them being more and more fastened by the idea of the possible extraterrestrials’ presence. As we can all notice it, people try their
best to be surrounded by friends or relatives That is exactly why humans created the
society in order to make us feel belonging to a group and erasing the sentiment of
solitude. First as Goldsmith and Owen explained, what we call ” Cosmic Loneliness “
pushed people being conscious of the importance of their acts on Earth and it encouraged
them to start being absorbed by the existence of other species.
Finally, I am sure that the feeling of isolation scares people. Indeed people who pretend having
experiences with UFO’ s are generally persons that feel a lack of something in their lives,
and replace this deficiency by relating extraordinary stories.
As long as they will feel alone, people will stay intrigued by eventual extraterrestrials
existence.
