Push and Pull Factors of migrating from Mexico to the U.S
There are many different push and pull factors that push migrants away from Mexico and pull them into the United States, especially California. A major factor that encourages migrants to go ahead and move is the proximity. California is across the border which makes it that much easier to get and transporting your belongings doesn't become that much of an issue when it's that close of a change. A major push factor from Mexico is the poverty. The population below the poverty line is forty percent, a dangerously high number. When that many people are in poverty, it creates a problem for the government in terms of how to deal with that many homeless people and how to insure their well-being; in Mexico no such promises can be made. Along with the poverty, that affects children, there is also unemployment. The unemployment rate is 3.3% along with the underemployment rate of about twenty-five percent. The Mexican economy is extremely weak. Then once they're safely in the United States they need to make sure that they stay that way without the government learning that they are illegal residents. Also, boys and girls are more likely to be treated equally as that is a major issue in the United States. In California however, no such problem exists. There are negative factors that may rise when you take a closer look at the destination, in this case the United States of America. The lack of clean water and deforestation are such a problem that they are considered national security issues by the government. There are many hateful actions done towards Mexicans and hurtful slurs used against them such as "spics". There are over ten percent of females that never learned how to read or write and are therefore illiterate. Even more importantly, education in the United States is more accessible due to public schools and being able to enroll in them for free. Also, for many of the jobs a degree is required with a high level of education that most Mexicans were not privileged with receiving. Even though one of the major pull-factors is more job opportunities, there is a negative factor attached. Although there are many negative factors pushing people away from Mexico, there remain some positive factors that may cause migrants to think twice. Many wouldn't consider migrating if it was such a big or far move.
