There are many factors that contribute to a well argumentative essay. If written properly the essay can be very effective in persuading an audience. It is important to concentrate on the audience because if the paper is not organized, developed and focused correctly it could lead to a confused individual. For instance, Sheila Dodson, the writer of "Bringing Home the Wolf", argues poorly because she lacks organization, focus and development but meets some criteria in development because of her descriptive first hand experiences. Structure and organization are key factors when trying to persuade your audience of a particular topic. In Dodson's essay she does not have much organization at all. First, she does not include a thesis statement, which is an important factor because it outlines your paper for the reader. Ideally you want the thesis in the first or second paragraph to set the reader up for the rest of the paper. All in all, Dodson's essay, "Bringing Home the Wolf," is a poor example of an argumentative essay. Her first hand experiences that she describes in paragraphs 2, 3, and 14 are great ways to connect with the audience but along with those visuals, she needs to have hard facts. Also her quotes came from People Weekly, Audubon, and Outdoor Life. Another factor that contributed to her unsuccessful paper was her lack of focus. By deleting the ecosystem out of her paper she could have focused more on two strong points instead of having several weak ones. Dodson lacks tremendous hard evidence. Finally, she did not have any hard facts, which does not give the reader any reason to side with her position. " This is a great introductory sentence but the reader had no idea what to expect because the lack of the thesis statement. If she would have stated some cons and rebutted them with hard facts, then her paper would have been more persuasive. Then in paragraph 8 she defines an ecosystem, which comes out of nowhere. On the other hand, there is no connection between People Weekly and the reintroduction of the wolf. She does this throughout the entire paper and lacks any focus. Some topics in this essay:
