Eating disorders

             Our Society today is plagued with multiple medical problems including eating disorders. Primarily, our society places too much pressure on one's appearance; this may cause eating disorders for all ages throughout the country. Many different types of people are affected with eating disorders. There are two types of eating disorders, Anorexia and Bulimia. Anorexia is when an individual doesn't eat hardly any food or no food at all. Bulimia is when an individual eats a lot of food and throws it up afterwards. Eating disorders are caused by society's opinion on the false image of what being "perfect" really means. Eating disorders are caused in individuals who have a predisposition toward developing them by constant exposure to society's insistence on thinness as the ideal of perfection. Will you take the risk of possibly dying for self-perfection?
             The problem of eating disorders is so widespread in the U.S. Anorexia has been around since the 19th century (Controversies 2). However, it is mostly a modern day problem. In the past being fat meant you were wealthy. As life went on our culture began to change. Money wasn't so much the issue anymore; many people didn't have to worry about being able to afford food (Controversies 3).
             Our culture began to become overly obsessed with thinness representing the ideal image of a perfect and most attractive woman (Controversies 3). When the media in our society over exposes this idea of self-perfection it corrupts the minds of vulnerable young girls, women, and even some men. Only a small amount of people in our population develop eating disorders. However, 8,000,000 or more people in the United States having an eating disorder. 90% are women.... (Eating 1).
