             Society is becoming immoral as a result of the loss of religion. In reality, religion affects many aspects of life. Religious beliefs inevitably affect areas such as politics, economics, cultural values, and society in general. In my opinion, the importance of religion is key to our survival as a species. While many religions have different virtues and traditions, they are all based on the same things, especially the preservation of life. As a Catholic, in regard to ethics and morals, I believe there are no more excellent guidelines for living than the Ten Commandments, and in my opinion, present America is fading farther and farther away from these virtues. In contemporary America many people believe that religion occurs only in a specific place of worship; churches, mosques, etc. They see religion and society as complete, separate entities. While this view may appear correct on the surface, a closer look at religion and society reveals that the two are not separate at all, but intricately interconnected and codependent.
             I believe a society with religion is far more likely to survive than those without for numerous reasons. The reason why I am so passionate about this topic is because I see such an apparent lack or morals everyday of my life. This past weekend I went home to Connecticut and after seeing everyone, one of my little brothers brings me up to his room to show me a new video game he bought. Right off the bat, the game was called "Grand Theft Auto" implying an obvious felony. As he starts the game, he is saved at a part where the mission objectives are first to steal a car, go pick up Ak-47s from a crack dealer who sells out of a dumpster, murder 4 head Asian gang members and spray paint the car to elude the police. Are you kidding me? My draw dropped wide open. Then the game goes on and after you complete the mission, you earn "street respect" and move up in gang rank. There were also intermissions througho...
