             A man robbed of his name and his dignity strives to win them back, and gain the freedom of his people, in the epic historical drama from director Ridley Scott. In the year 180, the death of emperor Marcus Aurelius (Richard Harris) throws the Roman Empire into chaos. Maximus (Russell Crowe), one of the Roman army's most capable and trusted generals and a key advisor to the emperor, is stripped of his rank and sold into slavery, as Marcus' devious son Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix) ascends to the throne. Renamed Narcissus and forced to become a gladiator, Maximus must battle to the death with other men for the amusement of the Roman people.
            
             The best scene is when Commodus wanted Maximus to take off the mask and show himself. When Maximus said "I'm husband to a murdered wife, father to a murdered son and I will have my vengeance in this life or the next. That was a powerful scene and it set the movie off. That scene was the center point of the movie. This scene made people really get into the movie and put them on the eage of their seats. You could feel Maximus pain and anger in this secne.
            
             This event is like similar events because it is full of drama like everything else. It has the fight scenes just like other events. Just about every events has a hero and a bad guy. The problems and flaws exist at the start of the movie. The start of the movie is too dark and the war scene was too long. They could have spend a little more time on Maximus family. One or two more fight scenes wouldn't have hurt.
            
             What makes Gladiator unique is that, it takes you and make you feel the characters feelings. You could feel Marcus Aurelius pain as a father, you could feel Commodus madness and pain as Marcus Aurelius' son, and you could feel Maximus pain for his family and his vengeance towards Commodus.
