Farewell To Manzanar

             Farewell to Manzanar is Jeanne Wakatsuki's memories of her experiences at Manzanar an interment camp for Japanese and Japanese-Americans in Owens Valley. During Word War II Japanese-Americans were relocated in Manzanar for their own protection but as the people in Manzanar said "if this is for our protection then why do they surround us in barb wire fences" they relocated Japanese-Americans because President Roosevelt singed a order which authorizes the War Department to remove people considered to be threats to national security. This Chaos all began right after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in December 7, 1941 in relation to this the bombing of Hiroshima in August 6, 1945 ended Word War II. There are many themes that Wakatsuki wants to get across but one of them would have to be," where you're from or your ancestry, is not as important as were you were raised and follow your heart". Jeanne was raised in the Long Beach area and thought that her heart was American. She had many experiences with life throughout her years in Manzanar and saw many things. She was a victim of racism in many ways and where you're from or your ancestry is not as important as where you were raised. Jeanne was from the Japanese ancestry and raised here where she considered her heart American and not Japanese. Jeanne tried a new religion Catholicism did many American activities and racism from both the Japanese and the Americans, and how this affects how Jeanne changes over time
             Even though Jeanne was from a Japanese Origin she tried a new religion and many American activities. The religion that she studied was Catholicism in the Maryknoll Chapel in camp; this was not the first time that Jeanne studied this religion. She liked the fact of getting baptized in a white gown a vein and hearing the many stories of the saints and martyrs, and even Sister Bernadette came to talk
