Bowling for columbine

             The first motive behind the movie is gun control. When taken a deeper look, the audience realizes that this movie is not only on gun control but the reasons why we need it, in the first place. There are many points made in the movie that seem to be un debatable and that seem to have valid relevance, relevance that should have been seen years ago before the tragedy that happened at Columbine High School. The shooting at the columbine high school was the first subject brought up in the film. The movie did not focus, however, on the youth and how they were corrupt and evil enough to shoot people, it focused on the availability of the guns they had, and the bullets they bought from K-mart. The most important thing is the awareness of the public to the things happening and the things not being done to prevent such said massacre. Another thing it touches on is the poverty of the community and of a shooting that happened in Flint, Michigan which is not only home to the Bell middle school where the shooting took place but also home to the world record of youngest school shooting. The shooting took place by a young boy whose mother had left him at his uncle's house. The reason why the boy was able to get a gun and go unnoticed to school with it, is because his mother was currently enrolled in a "welfare to work" program. This program in which she had to travel 2 hours to work and 2 hours back made parenting a bit difficult and because of this the boy was able to get away with getting a gun at his uncle's house. He shot a little girl named "Kayla". The situation explored is the poverty and the unfairness of such programs such as "welfare to work".
