Depression and everything that comes with it
Depression and Everything That Comes With It Depression is something that most people will experience at some point in their life (Patterson, 1). It can be a result of an external or internal influence. Depression can last for minutes or years. There are many different kinds of depression that can strike at any time. Depression can make its victim cry or commit suicide. The goal of this paper is to explain the different kinds of depression, their different symptoms, different ways to deal with them, and other important information needed to understand this illness. There are many different kinds of depression. The most inclusive type is termed major depression. The defining factor of major depression is that it "interferes with a person's ability to work, study, sleep, eat, and/or enjoy once pleasurable activities" (http://www.webmd.com/). This is the type of depression that most people will encounter in their life. The standard forms of treatment are somewhat similar but are usually taken to a more drastic level; the methods used are specific combinations of antidepressant and antipsychotic medication, electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), and close monitoring by a professional. Things that happened to a person in the past can greatly influence their mental health later on in their life, such as being physically, sexually, or mentally abused. Anxiety, agitation, hypochondria, insomnia, physical immobility, constipation, intellectual impairment, psychosis, delusion and hallucinations are added to the symptoms that have already been described (http://www. The symptoms of depression are similar between men and women, but women react on the more emotional side of the spectrum. Scientists believe that brain chemicals, ions in the air and genetics are some of the determining factors of this disorder, but they are still very confused as to what the fine print says (http://www. Depression not only plays a role in the life of adults; studies have shown that "between five percent and eleven percent of six to seventeen year olds are living with the problem every day" (Hurst, 22). The treatment is also antidepressant medication and psychotherapy.
