The value of behavioral therapy

             Behavioral research on animals has been proven to very beneficial. It provides results that benefit the health or welfare of humans and animals. Behavior is one of the most important properties of animal life. As it has made significant contributions to the understanding, treatment, and prevention of behavioral disorders. In human society many problems are often related to the interacting of environment and behavior or genetics and behavior. The American Psychological Association says "Animal research has been the major contributor to our knowledge of basic learning processes and motivational systems, such as hunger, thirst, and reproduction. (p.1)
             I believe this article had many different views on behavioral research on animals that proved it to be successful. Behavior therapy is very valuable towards the developments in behavioral research. Skinner's students applied "the principals of learning such as positive reinforcement, shaping, and behavioral analysis derived from experiments on animals to human problems of behavior." (P.427 American Psychologist)
             Behavior therapy has proven to treat many different types of neurotic behavior. The example of the 9-month old child that was suffering from life threatening malnutrition and dehydration suffered from persistent ruminative vomiting. Psychologists used avoidance conditioning therapy based on behavioral research on animals combined with psychophysiological recording techniques. As a result of behavior therapy thirteen days later the vomiting stopped and the child gained 25% more wait. Five months later the
