Vincent Van Gogh

             "As for me, I am rather often uneasy in my mind, because I think that my life has not been calm enough; all those bitter disappointments, adversities, changes keep me from developing fully and naturally in my artistic career." (Brooks, 1)
             Are the tragic and dramatic events that take place in our lives the ones which inspire us to be something better and to use our imaginations? This quote is by a famous artist by the name of Vincent van Gogh. When looking at his life you can see a bumpy road of travel, exploring, and heartache that to this day reflects directly on his paintings. I will choose a few of his popular paintings and tell you a little about the life of Vincent van Gogh.
             Vincent van Gogh was born in Groot Zundert in The Netherlands, on March 30, 1853. Unfortunately, there is practically no information about Vincent van Gogh's first ten years of life. We do know that Van Gogh attended a boarding school in Zevenbergen for two years and then went on to attend the King Willem II secondary school in Tilburg for two more. In 1868, at the young age of fifteen, Vincent decided to leave his schooling overall and never returned.
             Van Gogh worked for a few art dealers, he remained with his first company, Goupil & Cie, for seven years. In 1873, he was transferred to the London branch of the company and quickly fell in love with the cultural climate of England. Vincent van Gogh remained in London for two more years. During that time, he visited the many art galleries and museums and became a great admirer of British writers, such as George Eliot and Charles Dickens. The relationship between Vincent and this art dealing company became more strained as the years passed. In May of 1875, he was transferred to the Paris branch of the firm.
