Leadership Styles

             What is Leadership? Who, or more appropriately, what do you want in a leader? Leaders come in many shapes and sizes, flavors and colors, ideologies and theologies, but who can lead our organization? There are a number of theories on leadership. They are transactional, situational, supportive, Liassez-Faire, and transformational, but which is best for our organization. Mergers, Inc. is currently in the process of merging with Acquisitions, Inc., and will incorporate communication and empowerment as the primary strategy to build into the diverse culture associated with this merger. Setting goals and providing expectations to the employees is essential to facilitate the high performance that, in conjunction with the communication culture, is essential in promoting maximum shareholder value. Who is going to lead this company to this pinnacle of our cultural development where we as an organization are joined in a merger with Acquisitions, Inc.? This leader will rise to the challenge, overcome competitors, and achieve market dominance. This company has chosen Thomas Edison whose transformational leadership style will have a significant impact in facilitating our merger with Acquisitions, Inc. and allow the new merged company to grow beyond the innate capabilities.
             Managers have many different leadership styles readily available for their use. Not all managers can use all the types of leadership. Personality traits, the current situations, the culture and ability or technique of leadership play a significant role (Frank, 1993). There are the transactional leaders, situational leaders, supportive leaders, liassez-faire leaders, and transformational leaders.
