Aristeisdes was the one who calculated how much each state had to pay; his fairness gave him the title "Aristeisdes the Just". Herodotus Herodotus is the first Greek historian. The word "history" comes from a Greek word which means "inquiry" or "investigation. Both men and women, rich and poor used these bath houses. He was a significant and much celebrated figure of his day, whose work and vision have had a profound effect on scholarly views of Cretan and Mycenaean civilization to this day.
