Mathematics In Sports

My math fair topic is Math in Sports. The mathematicians involved in baseball were Babe Ruth, Ted Williams, Jackie Robinson, and Mark McGwire. Football had Dan Marino. Basketball had Michael Jordon. And soccer had Pele. I chose this topic because I love to watch and play sports, and although I have been observing and playing sports for many years, I haven't noticed how obvious it was that math is in sports. For instance, if you're keeping score, setting up a court/field, or finding a certain percentile of your team or favorite professional Baseball originated on June 19th, 1846, played under Alexander Jay Cartwright's rules on Hoboken's Elysian Fields, with the New York Baseball Club defeating the Knickerbockers 23-1. Cartwright umpired. Babe Ruth, on of Baseball's famous mathematicians, was born on February 6, 1895 in Baltimore, Maryland. His real name is George Herman Ruth Jr. He was deprived of a happy childhood. George, Jr. became a famous mathematician because he hit the most homeruns in a season and held the record until 1961. Also he was a phenomenal baseball player. Ted Williams, another famous baseball player, died at the age of 83. He was a famous baseball player because he was

Especially if your watch any of the sports channels, go to see professional athlete's play. Dan Marino, the mathematician of this sport, is so famous because he set a Dolphin's record for career stats, and he became the youngest quarterback ever selected to the pro Bowl in 1983. Soccer originated in China in 2500 BC. Basketball was originated when a physical education teacher at YMCA asked a janitor for two boxes to hang at the two ends of the gym. Football, a sport that originated from rugby in the 1800's, evolved when the Puritans established themselves in a power after the civil war, the new regime not only abolished Christmas but also banned sports, and so in riot they created a game called football. Apart from his popularity, Pele's life story is what all soccer players dream of. So if Joe has 120 hits in the 300 times he is at bat, his batting average is . Grass makes the ball skid rather than bouncing up in the air. Also calculating a player's field throw and free shot percentage, this can be done by simply dividing the number of shots actually made by the number of attempted shots. For example if the Hawks' go from the 25 yard line to the 50 yard line, you subtract 50 - 25 which equals 25. Even just keeping score is using math. Soccer has math in it because of the way the field is measured to set the boundary lines.
