Gandhi helped India in many ways to break free from Britain because of his great leadership skills and revolutionary beliefs. Gandhi helped India to strategize their defense against Britain. India motivated to fight back against Britain's unfair laws. Without Gandhi's leadership, India would not have gained freedom from Britain. India's independence is important because India deserved Her human rights that the British denied. Some historians argue that Gandhi did not help India, yet this is not true. India struggle for independence from Britain lasted ninety years. India is the seventh largest county located in Asia, expanding an area of 3.28 million square kilometers. They have 7000 kilometers of coastline. India is surrounded by many lands and it has always been the "invader's paradise". Having other lands as surrounding gave them a chance to adapt different religions. Hinduism and Muslims separated because of religious and cultural differences. Gandhi helped India by teaching the native Indians to have self-respect and to believe in human rights. In December 17, 1948 Gandhi wrote the Declaration of Human Rights. Britain also passed laws like the Rawlatt Act which led to severe punishment if Indians were to break the rules that Britain passed (Severance, 67). The significance of all of these strategies is that they used it efficiently to gain their independence. India needed not only motivation, but also strategies to fight against Britain. India won their independence in 1947 from Britain and became a free nation. This quote describes the terror of the march: " I heard the sticking whack of the clubs on unprotected skulls. Some motivations were that they were not treated and paid as well as they wanted to be (Severance, 63). When people started to make salt by themselves Britain came and tried to restore order so they decided to beat them with steel-tipped bamboo clubs. Gandhi helped Britain in many ways to help free India from Britain. Gandhi was revered as a godlike figure because of what he did to help people with their rights (Severance, 69-71). In 1948 Jawaharlal Nehru broadcast on the radio about India independence and he talked about Gandhi and how he helped India. Gandhi used several strategies to help India gain independence. Gandhi's silence also showed people the disunity that he saw between Indians (Severance, 83).
