Pity of a Salesman

             Death of a Salesman is a play in which there are many heartbreaking occurrences. Willy deserves the pity of the audience of the play. Willy deserves this pity because of the situations his sons keep getting in to. His sons Happy and Biff constantly fail at what they try to accomplish and thus continue to disappoint Willy making him feel worse about his life. Willy also deserves the pity of the audience of the play because of the very little success he is having with his job as a salesman. Willy continues to have a hard time selling and this makes him feel bad about himself. Finally, Willy deserves the pity of the audience of Death of a Salesman because he is loosing his mind. Willy continues to see and hear things that are not there and this leaves him seeming mad to others.
             Willy deserves the pity of the audience of the play because both of his sons are failures and continue to disappoint him thus making him feel worse about his life. Willy shows his disappointment when he says "You'll retire me for life on seventy goddamn dollars a week? And your women and your car and your apartment, and you'll retire me for life! Christ's sake, I couldn't get past Yonkers today! Where are you guys, where are you? The woods are burning! I can't drive a car!"(41). Willy is being sarcastic when he says this showing that he does not believe his sons will ever get a car, apartment, a women, or a good paying job. Willy believes he will never be able to retire because he does not think his family can support themselves when he is not working. Willy feels he will be stuck as a salesman who makes no money and is always on the road forever. This makes him feel terrible about his life and makes him want to kill himself. Other instances in which Willy's sons disappoint him are when Biff fails math, treats women poorly, and cannot seem to get a job anywhere. Happy also
