Biography of Edgar Allan Poe

Edgar Allan Poe is a person of many characters who has the ability to draw the audiences' attention towards him. One of the many characters that Poe possesses is the dreary character. Using this he writes poems that have the theme grief. A few poems that show this is "To One in Paradise", "Alone" and "Annabel Lee". These poems show how Poe is able to draw the audiences' attention even with the most awful things, like the loss of everything in To One in Paradise. Many of his poems seem to reflect the way in which Poe lived and therefore caused Poe to feel certain ways and write what he does. Edgar Allan Poe was born in Boston, Massachusetts to two actors, they had not really been the greatest of parents because when Poe was only a six years old he was orphaned by John Allan, hence the name, who was a successful business man I Richmond, Virginia. Poe had died in Baltimore, Maryland in 1849 he died from addiction to alcohol. Reports say that if his wife Virginia had lived then perhaps the drinking would not have begun and he would have lived a longer life. Edgar Allan Poe was put into a private school at the age of six when he was adopted by the Allan's in England. When Poe had returned to the US

This could actually resemble how even though something can start off really bad it can still turn out, in some way, okay. (Encarta, Poe, Intro) Edgar Allan Poe was orphaned by John Allan in the year 1813 when he had turned six years old. This poem shows grief because of the loss of a loved one. (2612) Poe also helped by the ways in which he uses symbol in his poems, for that he is honored by many American today. "The light of Life is o'er!" represents that the speaker feels that there is no point in his life and no longer wishes to live. In a recent survey on American poets Edgar Allan Poe was in the lower 20; 1 being the best. The fact that the speaker has loss is not that significant as that to the fact that if the speaker had not lost so much then perhaps he would not be in such grief as he is now. It really seems as if Poe at the time was just trying to tell people that he doesn't really care what the other people in the world really think. His stepfather was a very wealthy man and so therefore he lived a fairly wealthy life as well. For example in Alone it talks about how the speaker was feeling sadness and grief over the fact that he is unable to do the things that the other people could. Therefore these poems are excellent examples to the theme, grief. The third poem by Edgar Allan Poe is titled Annabel Lee. Instead it as if he just writes what he likes. He has been to a few places like Baltimore, Maryland; sadly the place in which he died. Poe' real parents were professional actors who were traveling at the time of his birth.
