Hamlet essay

Horatio is a man who has no personality of his own; he is merely a device for imparting information. I highly agree with this statement to some extent. Horatio has no personality of his own and just imparts information, I believe, mainly because of Hamlet. There are many different reasons to believe Hamlet is the cause of this. Examples of these different scenes would be Hamlet and Horatio when Hamlet is sent off to England, Hamlet and Horatio together at the end of the play, and Hamlet and Horatio throughout the course of the whole play. These events, I believe, show that Horatio is used as a foil to Hamlet. He helps us to get a better understanding of the character Hamlet while losing his personality doing so. The first part I would like to talk about is when Hamlet has been sent off to England. Hamlet has sent a letter to Horatio. In th

During this time, Horatio has been doing nothing exciting at all. Hamlet would tell plenty of exciting stories all the time to Horatio about crazy things going on in his life. Another example proving Horatio has no personality of his own would be Hamlet telling him to, "Tell my story. An example of this would be Hamlet's letter from England to Horatio where he says, "I have much to tell thee. This also proves Horatio is a man for imparting information to others The last point I would like to talk about would be the two events showing Horatio has no personality of his own. "(IV,VI,26-27) This is referring to the tonnes of crazy and exciting things happening to Hamlet while on the voyage. "(V,II,341-342) This shows that Hamlet does not want Horatio to die, but rather to tell his story to the world. "(V,II,341-342) He has no exciting story or personality of his own so he is told to tell the facts and stories of Hamlet's life. is letter there are many different and interesting comments throughout it. During the course of the play, Horatio was not a man to tell Hamlet different exciting stories. The next event I would like to speak about is Hamlet together with Horatio at the end of the play. I believe this is because he is a very boring man. He is just about to die and his true friend Horatio says,"Here's yet some liquor left,"(V,II,335) meaning he wants to drink the poison liquor and die with Hamlet.
