Emily never got married but is thought o have had a relationship with the famous Reverent Charles Wadsworth who she met in the spring of 1854 in Philadelphia. It did not work out because the Reverend was married. As Emily became older she became more and more reclusive to the point that by her thirties she would not leave her house and would decline visitors. Emily was known to give fruit and treats to children by lowering them out her window in a basket with a rope to avoid being seen. She developed a reputation of being a myth because she was almost never seen, and if she were caught sight of she was only seen wearing white. Emily died on May 15th 1886 due to Brights disease. Although Emily is woman that never can be completely understood the fact still remains that Emily is one of America's greatest poets.
