Gender-separate education. It's an old idea, dating to the old all girls/boys schools, but recently, the idea is getting a lot of new attention and support. But should it be implemented in public schools across the country? In my opinion, the risk currently does not justify the reward.
             Firstly, more studies need to be done on whether we should implement single-sex education throughout the country. Let's use the article for an example. The writer took a few classes in a Richmond Hills school and Lake Wilcox and used them to represent the whole country. There is also evidence against the notion that single-sex education would prove better than integrated classes. A trusted organization, the American Association of University Women reported in its report "Separated by Sex: A Critical Look at Single-Sex Education for Girls" that they found "no evidence that single-sex education is better than coeducation." The current surveys also don't specifically outline other characteristics of the class. What were the students, the teacher, and the funding? As far as my experience goes, never before in our class had there been a problem because of gender. More accurate and complete information is required before we make the decision.
             Secondly, the single-gender classrooms at school may not reflect long-term performance in the real world. Even thought they might work better without the "adolescent angst and hormones" ( 1), when they go out of the protected environment, they might perform just as poorly as before. Let us not forget that education is supposed to prepare us for when the students come out of school, and that the real world would be a mix of males and females working together, with the "adolescent angst and hormones". Although this procedure might lift marks for the students while they are in school, it's only a temporary fix and a cover up of their real long-term performanc...
