HOW TO MANAGE QUALITY TRAINING

             1. Introduction. Success in battle is the ultimate objective of all military training and may be expected only when training has been intelligent and thorough. The first consideration is discipline and that too of the highest order. In the battlefield, the manner in which a soldier carries on his individual duty as generally required of him, will largely reflect his prior training in discipline. The ultimate aim of such training is to enable him to carry out his task under fire, when separated by wide intervals from his comrades, intelligently use the equipment that he has been taught to use and obey orders either signaled or transmitted to him by his seniors. Disciplinary training should ensure that the soldier would nevertheless continue the execution of his mission by exercising his own judgment and applying what he has been taught.
             2. Although theoretical instructions supply correct ideas and maintains interest and purpose, which are not obtainable otherwise, yet it cannot replace practical training. Therefore, once the drill has been learned with precision, every exercise irrespective of the size of the unit should acquire the shape of a maneuver against an imaginary, outlined or represented enemy.
             3. Applications of Training. Certain fundamentals of training which find their essential and most important application in war should be constantly hammered during peace and should be penetrated in a soldier's mind as to be considered routine matter when the opportunity arises for their employment. All training should be directed towards producing self-reliant leaders.
             It is impossible to design fixed forms or to give specific instructions that will cover possible situations.
