A Deeper Look into Desiree's Baby

A Deeper Look into Desiree's Baby
Desiree's Baby by Kate Chopin is a short story that portrays a time in which to be colored was like having a curse. The story's focus was on Desiree's baby, rightly so, but there is something interesting about this baby. Desiree notices that the baby is different and goes to her husband to ask why. When he tells her the baby is black making her black she leaves after her mother tells her to come home, for black cannot be accepted. Desiree went her whole life thinking she was one thing so to be told your black is kind of a shock, but wasn't actually true.
In Armand's head by telling her that she was black there would be no questions raised about his race. In a way I believe that he knew that he was black and could use her to cover it up, this we discovered in class. I also believe that he never even thought that there would be a chance for his baby to look colored, for he didn't, and it would forever be hidden. So when the baby came along and it was a boy he was a proud and then he began to worry about what others might think of him. This proves the point that it is easier to point the finger at someone else, and he didn't care that she would take the blame.
Also in this story Desiree comes off as a loving and nurturing kind of person. She is very in love with her child and she badly needs the love of her husband and the baby did that for a while. From what I read it seemed as though she did in fact love him and would do anything for him to love her back. This is where the story doesn't make sense to me she loved him so much, if he was black she would have stayed with him, all he had to do was tell her.
Even if he would have figured this much out I also believe that that isn't what his decision was about. He was more worried about what society thought of him then what she would think about him if she knew. He didn't want to have to worry...
