             Gandhi's Struggle for India's Independence
             Gandhi was born on October 2nd, 1869 in Porbandar, India into the family of Porbandar's prime minister, who was his father, and a very religious, influential mother; she had taught him the importance of religion and non – violence and how crucial his beliefs will be in the life he perceives. At the young age of 13 he had an arranged marriage to a beautiful girl name Kasturbai who was to become his right hand and inspiration throughout his life. It was the situations he found himself in and the criticism from others he received as his inspiration to fight for justice for his own people. During the time of World War I in 1915 Gandhi returned to India from South Africa and after the war he became involved with the Indian National Congress and the movement for independence. Nationalistic feelings grew among the people when they began to realize that they have no influence as to what happens in their own country. The "democratic" way they were treated was unlike anything other countries practiced, therefore discovering the hypocrisy from the side of the British. Gandhi is considered the founding father of the modern Indian state, where his task was to free the Indian people of British rule and to be "an influential advocate of opposition to the practice of war as a means of revolution" (Mohandas Gandhi, Wikipeda). In order for India to achieve its independence from Great Britain, Mohandas K. Gandhi and his followers used various methods of non - violent resistance. Gandhi led number of non - violent campaigns against the British rule, such as boycotts, hunger strikes (fasting), marches and refusal to pay taxes. He fought for unity among Hindus and Muslims. His main objective was to weaken the British economy.
