Two Colonies Jamestown vs New England
In the 1600's many people of English origin embarked on the journey across the Atlantic Ocean over to the New World. Each settler had various reasons for departure which ultimately determined where they planned to settle. This also eventually determined which colonies would be successful. Chesapeake settlers came over en route of finding wealth whereas New England settlers came to America for a better way of life. The difference makers between the two colonies ended up being values, attitudes, and work ethic. In the end, the Chesapeake region developed into a different society than New England because of the settlers sole significance on gaining wealth. Furthermore, the Chesapeake region developed into a different society than New England because the settlers had the wrong attitudes and values going into settlement. The first New England settlers came over to America in search of a better life. They had left the Church of England, because they felt it retained to many traces of its Catholic origin. They just wanted a good community built on their religious beliefs. Their work ethic was non-existent and therefore it is very apparent why it developed into the place that it did. When the Chesapeake settlers realized their dreams had been unrealistic, no one was ready to actually work to survive. Each group's attitude reflected very much on their values. milar story of that of the Chesapeake settlers. Bad attitudes and values led the Chesapeake region to develop into a different society than that of the successful New England area. While the Chesapeake values were all about themselves, New Englanders were looking to better everybody situation as a whole. It is not surprising that when the Chesapeake settlers came to America they had no ethic to work and therefore continuously struggled to survive. New Englanders were there for a reason and they were not going to let all their work to get to the New World go to waste by being lazy. A better way of life for a community prevailed over greed. They had the wrong attitudes and values going into settlement to survive. The Chesapeake region developed into a different society than New England because of the settlers unwillingness to work at success.
