Culture

I have always defined culture as the shared like thinking of beliefs and values by our society. According to a search on the definition of culture, it is a shared, learned, symbolic system of values, beliefs and attitudes that shapes and influences perception and behavior-an abstract "mental blueprint" or "mental code". Cultural groups can include Race, Ethnicity, Gender, Age, Class, Sexual Orientation, Metal Ability, Physical Ability, Marital Status, Religion and social groups.Race and Ethnicity have long been debated. What is the difference and how are they linked? In 1996, six distinguished scholars gathered together in a live forum at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, entitled "Ethnicity and Education: What Difference Does Difference Make?" They answered questions regarding ethnicity and it's importance in education. I must admit the idea of a diversity course being a requirement in colleges today in order to obtain a degree seemed a little bizarre. Diversity in my mind meant a mix of all of the cultural groups mentioned above. Why does that need to be studied? After reading the transcript from the Harvard Education Review on the aforementioned debate, I now understand its importance. Wit

The role of Samantha portrays that it is ok to move from one sexual relationship to another. What box do I then pick when describing my race? White/Caucasian or Native American Indian? I'm both and much more. It created a type of homogeneous entertainment that allowed cultures to be defined through common experience. However, I wouldn't classify myself in this order. Why is that so important? I understand it is part of what makes a person who he/she is but why limit ones self to their sexuality and perhaps the stereotype that is associated? Many of these stereotypes have been formed through the media. If you read the tabloids, stars are first described by their gender and sexual preference. I prefer to describe myself as a Christian, intelligent and fairly independent woman, age 26, married with two children whom work hard to make a good living, which happens to put me in the middle-income bracket. On a date, I was once asked my ethnic background. This portrayal is not my perception alone; William H. With shows such as Ozzie and Harriet, Leave it to Beaver, Wagon Train, The tonight Show. They are still dating, going to nightclubs and can stay up late drinking. For a while, my husband and I stopped hanging out socially with other couples without kids because we didn't have those things in common to talk about. However, with the advent of TV a common culture was created that linked the US in a way it never had before. I admit it was a rather narrow way of thinking.
