This December, during the Christmas season, many mothers and fathers and potential gift buyers will be in the market for a home entertainment system. Until recently that meant only one thing: the Sony Playstation 2. The Playstation 2 is by far the most widely bought system in the world. In fact as of January 16, 2003, Sony revealed that they had reached the fifty million mark. Compare that to the twenty-seven million Xboxes and the 16 million Nintendo Gamecubes sold and you get the idea that Playstation 2 is the supreme system. It isn't. The Xbox is a better overall system than the Playstation 2.The Playstation 2 is produced by Sony and was first released in Japan, where most games are created. In fact, four out of five of the top game producers are based in Japan. Once Playstation 2 was released in America the attraction was undeniable. People waited in lines for upwards of eight hours just to get a Playstation 2. The DVD playback remote costs twenty dollars. It is used to save progress on games, because today's games can sometimes take up to 80 hours to complete. The Xbox removed the hassle and saved its customers money by installing a hard drive inside. Nevertheless, against all odds, Microsoft got it right on the first try. Playstation fans will also argue that you have to buy a DVD playback remote for the Xbox to be able to watch movies, while the Playstation controller can be used to control the movies. A lot of people were skeptical about software developers putting out a system. In this case Playstation has the advantage. This is the biggest obstacle with the Xbox. The Xbox is heavier than the Playstation, but it outperforms the Playstation as well. A memory card is kind of like a really small portable hard drive.
