Character analysis of

Many Men have an underlying goal to be better than another man, compelling them to use a mix of strategy and strength to rise above lesser men. In the short story "Hunters in the Snow," Frank seems to be searching for peace in his own life rather than searching for a sign of wild game. Frank's character seems to be a two-faced, pedophile who tries his best to gain respect and trust from each of his buddies. In reality, Frank envies Kenny and feels his only purpose in life is to seem as ruthless and powerful as Kenny.
While Kenny is well in the beginning of the story, Frank flocks to him trying to learn what makes a powerful man like Kenny tick. They leave Tub, who some would think is a lesser man, to wonder the woods by himself. Mocking his weight and size, Frank says, "You haven't seen your balls in ten years;" Kenny's laughter is an acknowledgement that Frank is learning the tricks of being powerful. This is probably the first time Kenny has laughed at someone else's joke, encouraging Frank to continue chasing his desire to be powerful. On the way back to the truck, Frank learns how to leave another man behind and seem to forget about him. Kenny and Frank walk on ahead of Tub, not even looking back, and almost drive off without him. Kenny is the leader and the one in control of what happens to his two friends. Men have a natural tendency to control anything they can. Kenny utilizes this tendency when he drives the truck and when he decides that the group will hunt where he wants to hunt as Frank discretely analyzes and takes mental notes. When Kenny murders the dog, Frank is shocked that with power comes the rage and heartlessness to kill, thus why he stares in wonder at the dead dog for a few moments. Kenny demonstrates a ruthlessness to do whatever it takes to obtain his goals weather it be to kill a deer or to control every living creature in his reach.
