The Spanish and French Empires
The New World was discovered by Christopher Columbus, or so everyone thought. In reality, the New World, today known as North America, was discovered by the Vikings, but there is no documented history of that time period, therefore Christopher Columbus gets all the credit for discovering North America, when in fact all he did was be the first one to record information of the new continent. The Spanish and French were two peoples who grew very intrigued by the discovery of this New World. Henceforth, many of their peoples set out to discover it for themselves, thus leading to wars and new thoughts and ideas. The Spanish empire and the French empire were different, yet similiar at the same time. Their empires were of weapons, lands, goods, and their trades. They also encountered many struggles against the English, involving them in many wars. The history of weaponry is and integral part of early empires. The Spanish weaponry mainly consisted of hand to hand combat and fire-arms. Fire-arms are also known as guns. The Spanish used these guns to wipe out many of the native americans of the new world and kill their enemies. The Spanish also used horses, they were the first to bring these majestic
The Spanish also had a large navy whereas the French had a navy no where near the size of the Spanish. Also, they explored all over South America aquiring many of the lands to the south. The Spanish empire mainly consisted of sailors and explorers. The only land they had in North America was Spanish-Florida, though they had many lands on their home country soil. If they were to be in a battle know though, things would now be different. The last war, the French and Indian war, also known as"The Seven Years War", was between the English and French along with the Indians. King William's war, also known as "The War of Levi Augsburg", invovled the French and English empires. Their thoughts, actes, appearances were different from each other. Some very greedy Spanish conquistadors took over the greatest of the native american cities. The French however, were very greedy and wanted the North American lands for themselves. They encountered in many wars with each other and each other's enemies. Also, I believe that the Spanish were the strongest of the two empires controlling more ships than the French, being a wealthier country. Queen Anne's war also known as"The Spanish Succession" was a war of the French and Spanish combined together against the English. The Spanish conquistadors took all of the Aztec's gold, destroying the glorious city in the process.
