Throughout the years, the world has seen many conflicts erupt from religious differences. These problems, which have been as small as involving five people, or as big as involving 2 million people, have set the tone for the upcoming 21st century. It is apparent that everyone has his or her own set of beliefs, and that no ones are necessarily right or wrong. When someone tries to change another person's own basic ethics, conflict and hatred rise up. When these problems became bigger, a new form of warfare was put to use by any kind of group of people who were not as superior as their opponents. This warfare is known as Terrorism. A terrorist's goal is to threaten someone who they feel oppressed by, using violence and any means necessary to get what they want. The most grotesque act of terrorism came in the 1972 Olympic games, which were held in Munich, Germany. This battle pinned the Muslims against the Jews, and Germany once again would have the feeling of religious hatred put on their shoulders. What I want to know is, what drives people like this to commit these acts? Is it their response to warfare? Is it a way of getting noticed? Or is it done in simple haste and disregard of human life? The war was a religious conflict, fighting over land known as the Gaza Strip. Many Israelis were angered by the memorial, because they made no reference to the fallen heroes, but only to how strong the current Olympians were in continuing. The rest of the world soon would learn of the tragic event, as the gunmen said they were members of Black September, a Palestinian terrorist organization, and would hold nine Jewish Olympians Hostage because of the oppression against them. The world was outraged, and people began making banners reading "17 dead, already forgotten?" What drove members of Black September to commit these vicious acts? Did these Palestinians really think that killing these Israelis would mark a winning battle in the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian War? Did they really think the Germans would meet their demands by letting over 250 Arab criminals go? And, could they have possibly thought that Terrorism would win the war and eventually win the holy lands back to Palestine? Well, it was probably a blend of all three. As you can see, religious tensions arose from these Battles. Yes, the war between them and the Israelis was a brutal one. The Germans assigned 5 sharpshooters around the Airport, ready to take out the Terrorists instead of meeting their terms. Among the fallen were David Berger, Ze'ev Friedman, Joseph Gottfreund, Eliezer Halfin, Andrei Schpitzer, Amitsur Shapira, Kahat Shorr, Mark Slavin, and Yaakov Springer. The mastermind of the whole operation, however, is still at large to this day. This act was condemned by the United Nations as well, but no one acted out. After meeting up with three other Arabs, they stormed the door of the Israeli room, and came face to face with a wrestling coach. Just 19 hours after the Arabs stormed the Jewish rooms, the tragedy was over. This part of land used to be sacred and was like the second Mecca, but these two countries had turned it into a vicious battleground. Many different kinds of people have resorted to Terrorism and Guerilla Warfare to even out the odds of being outnumbered as well as lack in advanced weaponry. But not yet had anyone seen this coming.
