Explication of

             I chose to do my explication on the poem by Bob Dylan called "The Times They Are a-Changin'. This Poem really caught my eye because it really rings true. In the first stanza he talks about the water rising around, and if you don't know how to swim then you will sink (3-6). This gives me a very good picture of what the times are doing.. He is referring to the times growing and changing around people, and if they don't learn how to grow and change with them then they will get left behind. It is still seen around society today even though this poem was written in 1941. A prime example is how some old men and women will make fun of or even shun people who have piercings or tatoos. They have not changed with the time. What may be an important, and new aspect of our culture for some, it is still looked down upon because they are stuck in the time that they think is right.
             In the second stanza Dylan is telling critics and writers to keep their eyes wide and that the chance will not come again. He says come writers and critics who prophecize with your pen And keep your eyes wide the chance wont come again (13-16), He is really delivering the message that if you don't stop and look around for life then it just might pass you by. He is also talking about how the losers now will one day win. He is saying that what good now may someday be good.
             Throughout all the poem he is addressing different groups of people. At the beginning of the poem he is just talking to people in general possibly to account for the other groups of people that he does not address later in the poem. As I have already said in the second stanza, he addresses critics and writers. Then with the stanzas after that he goes from senators and congressmen to mothers and fathers. This was a very good strategy because it is telling everyone and not leaving anyone out of the changes that are going to take place in the world. He is basicall...
