“Who is the hero of the Faerie Queene?

The epic poem poses many heroes in the story. The overall story is about heroes or heroines facing a variety of challenges and struggles between good and evil. Red Crosse, the hero of Book I, is a major part of this allegory. He is called the "Knight of Holinesses" which is a reference to being holy and worshiping God. He goes around doing deeds like slaying dragons and monsters that represent evil. Una, his companion with whom he is traveling, represents truth and faith. The whole idea of this first part of the story is evil trying to separate holiness from truth and faith. As Red Cr

osse and Una travel on their way, things are fine until they are faced with the dragon, Error. After defeating the dragon, Red Crosse and Una travel looking for the right path to save her parents and free the kingdom. He is the hero"tms hero in each of the books. The dragon represents evil in the world and is defeated. In his suffering, Red Crosse finds the house of holiness, faith, hope and charity. Arthur is not the primary character in any of the books but he always enters in the nick of time to save a damsel in distress or slay an evil dragon or a giant. Arthur represents the classic "Knight in Shining Armor". All have one thing in common: they want Red Crosse to be alone, to become one without faith. He is strong and fearless with a sense of duty and responsibility to fight evil and ensure that goodness prevails. Arthur rose above adverse conditions to become a leader. Conquering evil makes Red Crosse the hero in Book I; however, Arthur is the main hero of the poem. Red Crosse falls under the deceit of Duessa (an evil enchantress) and losses his way. As the story goes, they are faced with lots of evil people that tempt their faith. He is a hero who grew up without parents and drifted to shore in a basket as a baby.
