Imagine that a family is sitting in a doctor's office, waiting to find out the results from medical tests that were performed on a loved one. As they sit and patiently wait, the elderly person with them grows more and more uneasy and will no longer sit quietly, much less calmly. Finally the doctor returns with the test results only to increase the worry instead of lessen it. They have been told that their loved one is suffering from the first stages of what's known as Alzheimer's disease. The lives of that family have just drastically been changed. Now they have to figure out not only what that means, but how to deal with it as well. They are faced with a job that none of them ever planned or trained for. It's time to learn as much as possible about this new obstacle in their lives, Alzheimer's disease. Alzheimer's disease is a progressive brain disorder that is gradual but irreversible in decline of human life. Diagnosing Alzheimer's has proven to be a challenge as well. Over time, they have watched their loved one go from completely being familiar and a part of the family, to a person lost and unaware of the surroundings, with no memory of them. Doctors are hesitant to give the diagnosis of Alzheimer's in order to save the patient from the worsening effects of an otherwise treatable disease. The progression of the disease is not always the same from one patient to another and the stages may vary from one person to another. This will provide higher self-esteem and confidence as well as relieve some of the stress on the entire family. These fibers are mostly found in the memory areas of the brain and appear spaghetti-like, long, and slender, where normally straight nerve fibers should be located in the nerve cells or neurons.
