Imagine the Experience
Imagine being trapped in a small, enclosed space for over two years with people you can hardly stand seeing. Imagine having to eat the same food every day for every meal. Imagine not having the ability to go outdoors or even look out the window. Imagine falling asleep every night wondering whether or not you'd wake up the next day. These are just a few of the horrors young Anne Frank had to go through when she was forced into hiding during the evil reign of Hitler. She overcame so much, yet had so little. Anne Frank is a true archetypal hero; she received a calling to go on a mission; she faced many hardships, but saw them through, and conquered the world. When Adolf Hitler came to power in Germany in 1933, he "blamed the Jews, a degenerate race that was evil, dishonest, and dangerous to all Germans," for all the problems in Germany at that point in time (van der Rol, Verhoeven 16). The Franks, a Jewish family living in Germany, were forced to take action towards the events effecting them. After Margot Frank, Anne's older sister, received a call-up notice from the SS stating that she would be sent to a concentration camp, the family decided to go into hiding. Although this note wasn't for Anne in particular, it did, howe
The families had to react appropriately to every sound heard; they'd never know who it might be waiting for them. After living in filth for several months, Margot died at Anne's side from contracting typhus. Anne left such a great impact on the world; she is respected by millions of people for the amazing task she performed at such a young age and during such a tough period of time. And every person who stood up for their rights is a hero. They could live the life of Anne Frank, "the struggle for identity, the fears, the doubts, above all the everydayness in the diary entries, the worries about outgrown shoes, the romantic yearnings, and the ever-present conflicts with Mama and Margot reflect, mirror, and elevate the lives of millions who went about the business of studying, romancing, cooking, sewing, and struggling to live in the world until the Nazis ended their millions of ordinary, individual lives" (van der Rol, Verhoeven). "Her mother was someone against who she rebelled, but in the camp, all of that actually completely fell away" (Metzger 87). Obstacles such as her mother, illnesses, fears, and finally, concentration camps. On August 4, 1944, the Secret Annexe was no longer secret. Anne, being the youngest member of the eight living in the annex, was always blamed for the problems occurring, "they criticize everything, and I mean everything, about me: my behaviour, my personality, my manners; every inch of me, from head to toe and back again, is the subject of gossip and debate.
