The Biography of Alessandro de Medici

The Biography of Alessandro de' Medici Alessandro de Medici was a part of the Royal Medici family, which was the family of fifteen generations in power in Italy from 1291 to 1743. Alessandro was born in November of 1510 and had a short but interesting life of 27 years. He was assassinated on January 5, 1537 by a fellow Mediciean. Alessandro had dark skin, a low forehead, thick lips, and curly hair, and with these characteristics he looked nothing like any of the other Midiceans. The life and times of Alessandro was interesting and fascinating, his contributions, however were very limited, and the historical significance this man showed was very simple. Alessandro's life was good and the times he was living in were not that bad either. The most interesting part of the life of Alessandro is to whom he was born. His father, Lorenzo di Piero de' Medici II mated with a black serving woman in the Medici household, who changed her name to Simonetta de' Collavechio and the result was Alessandro. Because Alessandro had different characteristics and was not of pure Medici blood, he was criticized many times and often looked at as an outlaw. He was considered "a hopelessly vicious monster" by many people, and even by some family. He

Alessandro reached former Florence in 1532, married Margaret and started his reign as the Duke of Tuscany. The Medici family was extremely embarrassed by the horrible example Alessandro had placed upon their name. Holy Roman Emperor Charles V took control of Florence and changed its name to Tuscany. This part was that of which he was the first duke in the entire modern western world to be black. Not long after, Alessandro fell asleep and that was when Lorenzino and Scoronconcolo, another man Lorenzino hired, walked into the bedroom. After this, the family members sent Clarice to talk to him and set him straight. The last historical recognition of Alessandro was that he was one of the two Medici princes to be buried in the famous tomb by Michelangelo. Though Alessandro had done many immoral things in his life, he was still considered "a mature hero and an extremely articulate and courageous intellectual, who had proven his patriotism" before those acts which he imposed. He was also given a seat in the Assembly and the Council of Seventy. In 1527, however, a revolt broke loose and Silvio Passerini and Alessandro were forced to retreat to Pisa. So it can be debated that Alessandro had no contributions, but instead made the society worse. Another accomplishment of Alessandro was that when he became Duke of Tuscany, he was appointed gonfalonier for life. In 1525 Alessandro arrived in Florence with Cardinal Silvio Passerini, who governed Florence while Alessandro was young and educated him more on how to be a ruler. Alessandro was of little historical significance but did have one amazing part in history. Scoronconcolo took a few seconds to find the neck of Alessandro and he thrust his blade in under the chin.
