The average salary of full-time instructional faculty, within a 4-year degree-granting institution, was collected for each of the 50 states. The average salaries were based on data collected from faculty on 9-month contracts during 1997-1998. The data has been categorized into the following levels of faculty; Professor, Associate and Assistant. Based on the data set for Associate salaries, 20 of the 50 states (40%) indicate an average salary range between $50,000 and $55,000, including a median salary of $52,479.
