Elizabeth Cady Stanton

             Elizabeth Cady was born on November 12, 1815 into a large family that was very wealthy. Her father was famous judge and mother was a homemaker. Eleven years later Elizabeth's brother died. This tragedy brought about many doubtful thoughts into Elizabeth's mind about living up to her brothers standards.
             Her father always wanted the best education for both his daughters and his sons, but to Elizabeth it seems as if the boys of the family were the most valuable ones. This made Elizabeth want to please her father even more and exceed in every way possible. Elizabeth attended the progressive Troy Female Seminary; there she received the best education that was available for young woman during the 1830's (Harper, E. Judith).
             After Elizabeth graduated in 1833, she became involved with the world of reform. She married an abolitionist named Henry Brewster Stanton in 1840, shortly after she met Lucretia Mott, she would soon become the most important educator in Elizabeth's career.
             In 1848, Mott and Elizabeth arranged the first woman's rights convention. At this time, she presented her very own composed document called Declaration of Rights and Sentiments. "The Declaration and its eleven resolutions demanded social and political equality for all women, including the most controversial claim, the right to vote" (Harper, E. Judith).
             In March of 1851, Elizabeth Stanton met Susan B. Anthony. Susan B. Anthony is a temperance leader that was involved in assisting woman in helping themselves and their families break away from the violence and poverty due to alcoholic husbands. Anthony and Stanton hit it off right away, they did not just become the best of friends, but they became partners to fight for woman's rights.
