             The Life and Death of Christopher Marlowe
             Many of the great writers that are remembered to this day emerged during the Elizabethan era. One of these often overlooked writer is Christopher Marlowe. Many people normally associate this period with the great William Shakespeare. Christopher Marlowe was likely the best English dramatist of the Elizabethan era before William Shakespeare. Christopher Marlowe's life, death, and influence on other great playrights has intrigued people up to present day.
             Christopher Marlowe was born in Canterbury, England on February 6, 1594. He was a very bright man who was a son of a shoe maker. Marlowe attended King's School, in Canterbury, and at the age of seventeen was awarded a scholarship to study for the ministry at Cambridge. There, he received his Bachelor of Arts in 1584 and his Masters degree three years later( Kathleen).
             There was, however, controversy around his attempt to graduate from his masters program. People have discovered that Cambridge officials attempted to withhold Marlowe's degree because he refused to follow religion regulations. For this people began suspecting that he was converting to Roman Catholicism. He had reportedly gone to Rheims, France and some believed he became a Catholic priest after graduation. The
             government eventually intervened and said they sent Marlowe to France on matters of national security. He eventually received his degree, but it is likely he was doing work for the government and was possibly a spy (Kathleen).
             After graduation Marlowe decided to move to London, England. "Contemporary accounts indicate that he adopted a bohemian lifestyle and continually abused social norms with boorish and repugnant behavior."
