They believe they should run the household. Every decision that is made has to come through the male. A woman cannot work because she must keep the house in order. When the male comes home the dinner has to be on the table. These are some traditional beliefs of most male batterers. Another reason that a man may beat a woman is because the man may have grown up in a home where his father beat on his mother or even himself. If a man grows up in this type of an environment he may feel that it is all right to beat his wife in response to anger. Many men who batter women usually don't admit that they have a problem or that their behavior is unacceptable, and therefore do not seek help. Frustration is also another characteristic of a male batterer. These men are sometimes frustrated that their life did not turn out the way that they wanted it to or maybe things are not going the way that they should so they take it out on the woman (Moore 16-18).
             Domestic violence is not something that just happens. The men who abuse their wives usually go through three phases in which the signs are often familiar. The first phase is usually a tension-building phase. During this phase the man's is usually doing a lot of screaming and yelling.
