             1. a) If there were a runner on third base, one out and the ball was hit to the third baseman, the third baseman would field the ball and then hold the runner at third. At the last possible moment they would throw the ball to first base ensuring that they still got the out. Then if the runner at third base decided to run there would still be enough time for the first base player to throw home and make another out.
             b) In this situation with two out the third baseman would field the ball and throw immediately to first base to make the out. This would cause it to be three outs so even if the runner on third base made it home it would not count anyway.
             c) If there was a runner on first and none out and the shortstop fielded the ball they would run to second base and touch it or throw the ball to the second base player, depending on where the ball is fielded. From second base the ball would be thrown to first base to produce a double play where both the runner and batter are out.
             d) In this situation the runners cannot leave their base until after the ball has been caught or if it is dropped. If the ball is caught the left fielder would throw directly to home base to prevent the runner on third base from scoring, which is what they will be trying to do. If they drop the ball they should throw to second base to ensure they get at least one out because the first base player will be forced to run.
             e) In this situation the runner on first base should be looking to score. If it is a very long hit a relay throw should be set up with the second base going out to help the right fielder, as soon as the fielder picks up the ball they should throw it to the cut-off person who will turn around and decide the best place to throw the ball. This may be home or second base if they are looking to get an out or just back to the pitcher if the runners are already safe.
